StudentCouncil Minutes
January18, 2012
The meeting was called to order by President Sariah. Secretary Emma took the role call. All members were present. Members agreed that they share December's minutes with their classmates.
Discussion today centered around the January school spirit event. The council had planned for each class to build a snow sculpture in the front circle of the school. Due to the lack of snow, this has not happened. Our alternate idea was for each classroom to decorate their door in a winter theme. The council has decided to wait no further for snow and ask each classroom to show some school spirit and decorate their door. If snow does fall and classes want build a snow sculpture, they are encouraged to do that any time this winter.
Members asked about winter sleds. Mr. Tim brought them down from the attic and they are now available in the entry way. There are 14 sleds which mean each classroom has 2 to use during recess. Teachers are asked to create a plan so that everyone in their class gets the opportunityto use the sleds.
The council discussed the upcoming February event. During the week ofFebruary 13-17th, the council will run a friendship store in the library from 12:00 -12:15 each day. This event is to celebrate friendship and caring during the Valentine's Day week. Student may choose to buy gifts for friends and family members. Items for sale will include beanbag animals, mini sports balls,bouncing balls, squeeze hearts, fun bands and pencils. All students should remember that these are considered toys (excepts for the pencils) and need to go home on the afternoon of your purchase. If you are found to be playing with them during school time, a teacher will confiscate your item(s). Council members have a poster to decorate and post in each classroom.
Council members are asked to get ideas from classmates about possible items for March Madness Day and bring those to the next meeting in February.
